IC Information:
Name: Asuka Tachibana. He prefers to be called Tachibana.
Fandom: s-CRY-ed
Timeline:  Episode 5 just after his defeat by Kazuma.
Age: 16
Appearance:
Asuka stands about 5'5" in height and has an athletic build. His hair is short and purple, cut in a similar fashion to his team leader, Ryuho. His eyes are olive in hue, clear and bright. Generally, he is seen wearing his HOLY uniform, which is a knee length double breasted coat with white collar and breast, thick black strip that runs down from the collar to the elbows and white cuffs. Purple slacks adorn his legs and his boots meet at the knee to protect his shins from the harsh environment of the Lost Ground.

Asuka has a communication watch that acts like a mini-computer that he wears on his right wrist. This watch can view pictures, take pictures, play media such as music and videos, acts like a cell phone and records voice messages.

He can also be seen wearing a red undershirt, a white undershirt, tan trench coat and blue jeans. This is a far cry from his starched and pressed appearance from his HOLY uniform.

Abilities: Asuka has many abilities that are a branch off from his primary ability to summon eight jade balls that he can form from any matter around him. This is known as his Alter Power called Eternity 8. He can form up to 8 of these balls about the size of a softball in size or close to the size of grapefruits. He can condense the size to about that of golf balls. (Which, by the way, his power is the butt of many jokes concerning the balls themselves despite their uses.)

He can only use these balls to manipulate living things but it comes at a cost. The more spheres he summons, the quickly he tires. Despite the orbs versatility as tools, weapons, life-force manipulators and healing, they do drain his physical body since he has to use his body and mind to control them.

- Mind Control: Tachibana can control as many as eight individuals, coinciding with the number of orbs he can summon, at one time. However, the greater the number, the greater the mental drain that he will suffer from. They have to be living in order for this to work. He can use unconscious individuals much the same way as a puppeteer can use puppets. However, if a person exhibits a stronger mental fortitude, he can use more than one to break down their wall and only for as long as Tachibana can maintain that hold.

Controlling minds of individuals does greatly restrict him in combat and therefore he is forced to hide while he performs Mind Control. He could use the mind-slaves for combat purposes but there's a catch. The mind-slaves would perform the same action which would make them appear as if they are mirroring each other than acting as individuals would in a combat situation.

- Ring Platform:  Tachibana can transmute the Eternity 8 into a high energy ring that would allow him to levitate in order to perform "tactical retreats". He can also use this ring to cut down obstacles that pose a threat to him, but prefers not to use it for that purpose against living things. When he has the ring in use, he can't summon any orbs. This flying "disk" can travel at high speeds and last as long as Tachibana can control it which is generally for short distances.

- Luminance: This is a very low powered ability that he can use to on the summoned orbs. He can make the spheres glow as long as he remains conscious. In combat, they can remain glowing, but it will drain him a bit faster since he would have to use three abilities at once; keeping the spheres tangible, making them glow and using them for combat.

- Healing Boost:  He can heal up to eight individuals at one time, but the cost to his body depends up on the injuries sustained and it drains him considerably. The concentration used to heal is taxing. In the series, he healed up to 40 people and passed out shortly after healing these people fully. These orbs can also heal fatigue, mental exhaustion, serious wounds, broken bones, coma, poison, intoxication, drug overdose, frost bite, burns, internal bleeding, and illness. As long as the subject has a pulse, he can heal them dramatically. However, it cannot heal mental illness, possession or intelligence issues. He can heal the pain associated with these issues but nothing more.

- Eternity 8 Ring:  Tachibana can create a ring that would allow him to lift an individual about the ground either to prevent attack or to get a person out of a dangerous situation. This is also called Eternity Arrest. The binding ring is nearly impossible to break free unless the individual captured has greater than the strength of the ring itself and that depends greatly upon Tachibana's physical condition. In good health, the ring has the same tensile strength as a steel ring one inch thick. At his weakest, it has the strength of balsam wood.

- Eternity 8 Shield: Tachibana has the ability to create a shield using the eight Treasure Balls and he can make this shield as condensed or as wide as he chooses by controlling the orbit and speed of the Treasure Balls. The more condensed the shield, the more powerful the attack it can repel. However, the condensed shield is only as strong as his body can sustain. Meaning, if the attack is powerful enough to tear chunks from the ground, as long as his body isn't fatigued he can hold up against this attack. The wider the shield, the weaker it becomes.

- Eternity 8 Sword: By aligning the eight Treasure Balls in a straight line, he can manipulate the energy into a semi-plasma state that can cut through virtually anything. However, like the shield, if he's too taxed, the sword may not be as strong or last as long against an attack if his body is taxed.

- Eternity Extra Shot: Tachibana can reconstruct more material to create a bow that attaches to his left wrist. With this bow, he can align the Treasure Balls in a straight line like an arrow. Aiming for the head of his target primarily, he can erase memories, break mental conditions or wipe the mind completely which leaves the victim a drooling, and rather unintelligent creature that can be re-conditioned into someone else. He could also read thoughts from this attack depending on the mental fortitude of the target.

Personality:  Asuka Tachibana is generally a sweet guy with a touch of logic in his speech. In critical situations, Tachibana reacts with professionalism and decorum. Socially, he acts relatively average with a bit of an aloof politeness that depicts his conditioning to city life. He has a great deal of contempt toward the Inners that killed his family the moment they found out that Tachibana was an Alter User. This caught the attention of HOLD and lead to Tachibana's capture and reconditioning at the age of 9.

After his training and adjustment period, he began to understand that city life wasn't so bad as long as he followed the rules of society by remaining polite and obeyed the orders of the Mainland superiors. In episode 3, that all changed when he defied orders to hunt down an Alter User that embarrassed him in front of his peers.

Polite, Tachibana has heard many jokes about his "balls" and tends to remain focused during these immature outbursts from his peers and co-workers. At times, especially when he is pushed, he can react brazenly and lash out once he reaches his breaking point.

Tachibana loves life and tries his best not to harm another living thing as long as possible during a fight. He can be sensitive and shows empathy whenever another living being is harmed. He tries his best to protect those weaker than him or the powerless even at the cost of his own life. He's not afraid to stand up for what he believes in and does his best to perform at his peak.

Throughout the series, he shows a development in his personality where he no longer tries to be something that he wasn't. In the beginning, he was shown to be snotty, egotistical and arrogant with a whole lot of pride mixed in to hide his insecurity. It wasn't until his second fight with Kazuma where he muscled in and was defeated. That fight alone humbled him to such a degree that he had nothing left to do but to find his place in the world.

He eventually found himself helping the Inners as a scout, an illegal broker of medicines and supplies from stolen goods, and as a reconnaissance operative. He has shown an interest in tracing rumors to find the truth. Through Mimori's help, he learned about the science behind Alter powers and has used that knowledge to better his skills even further through perseverance.

He can be stubborn and yet he can be to the point if he finds it necessary. He has a long strain of patience that can exceed expectations, but even then it has a limit. He picks and chooses his battles carefully because he knows his limitations. If he feels that he can't take on a certain task or is overwhelmed, he will back off to let the stronger individuals take control of the situation.

Tachibana has also learned something else more important about himself as the series progressed. He knows that controlling people isn't the answer not matter how tough the battle or situation becomes. He would rather not control people if he can help it, but if there are people that he is protecting, he will use his Mind Control as a last resort.

He is more of a distance hitter than a up-front confrontational fighter. His hand to hand skills reflect this, and it's the weakest in his list of skills. He would rather not use his fists at all if he can help it. His fighting ability alone is so poor that when he's knocked down, he panics, and will often shrink, or back down.

Even if he can "feel" what's going on around him, he knows that if he gets involved he would only be in the way, so instead he chooses to keep his distance. Tachibana has a method in how he does things. Even during the time he "rescued" Kazuma and Ryuhou, and shrugged off his help as nothing more than a rest, he knew better than to argue and shrugged it off as well.

He can be a mother hen of sorts. He would rather have those around him to think things through than rush in head on. He voices this more than once when Ryuhou and Kazuma both decided to rescue Kanami. He worries when people go in without a plan. Then again, he worries when anyone does anything reckless and is vocal about it. Often, he lectures when he's healing those that got hurt from sloppy planning. He can be a perfectionist when it comes to how situations are being handled. In a lot of ways, he reflects his emotions through his own actions.

He can take a joke in stride and often will reply with a sarcastic remark of his own when he's the mood to deal with it. Otherwise, he would simply change the subject and continue on as if that part of the conversation never took place. This can have a two-fold effect. It could either irritate the person that said the remark or it could turn out for the better and focus their attentions on something more important.

Tachibana can be silly without realizing it. After all, he's still a teenager. Duty generally comes first before play. Either one are taken according to timing and his mood. He's not brooding and he hardly gets depressed. If he ever does, he never shows it publicly. To him, emotions are subjective and can often cloud judgment during times of crisis. There is a time and place to show them. However, he'll never berate a person for having them. He does recognize that some people are very good at balancing them better than others and they can get the job done even if they do complain. Still, it wouldn't stop him from forming an opinion.

Depending on how well he knows a person, he can either be very open or appear fake. His basic politeness hardly leaves unless there is something more important waiting that needs his attention. He's not much for babbling about useless information and would rather cut to the chase than beat around the bush.

Mental State: Tachibana does exhibit a strong bead of insecurity when he's alone. He often questions his own actions and hesitates which has lead to his defeat on several occasions. One of them happened to lead to his capture as a child and he felt powerless. As he grew, he grew an attachment to those stronger than him and tries to emulate their ideals. This leads to an obsession to Ryuhou, his group leader. He went as far as to act like him, dress like him, has a similar haircut, and even talk like him. He doubts his own sexuality and shows this through confusion by asking questions.

Tachibana is intelligent but he's also extremely naive. He doesn't know how to express his opinions well which often leads to debates or heated arguments. When questioned, he sometimes submits and backs out of the conversation by conceding that he is the weaker. Internally, he will hold in his anger until he can no longer control it and will eventually break. To some, this may look like he's strong but inside he's too scared to confront his internal issues of doubts and regrets.

About his name: Tachibana prefers to be called by his family name than his given one simply because he knows that his name is feminine and often never introduces himself as such. This could lead to some pretty funny situations when his given name is found out or used openly.

History: Asuka Tachibana was born in a world where Alter users were viewed with disgust and contempt in some parts of his world. In his youth, he lived in a place known as the Lost Ground and his family suffered through tyranny, hardships in a dystopia that was torn between humans living in fear because of the Alter users and fear of HOLD, a police action force that controlled the land by order of the Mainland. The Mainland is another name for Japan in his time.

Tachibana grew up believing that those that lived in the Lost Ground were nothing but social trash and leeches on the economic support from the mainland. He never talked about his family because of this discord. He became a member of HOLY, a group of Alter users that were forced into service, Tachibana soon came to realize that if he didn't serve, others would suffer and that soon grew into hatred toward others that tried to use their powers for tyranny.

After his first battle with Kazuma, he was faced with extradition from HOLY and was soon expelled from the force. This expulsion caused Tachibana to snap and reality had set in that he knew nothing else but HOLY. He swore vengeance against Kazuma for not only his involuntary resignation, but also for his injury and his embarrassment.  He later healed himself while he was in the hospital and left doctor's care to search for the one he blames that ruined his life.

It was that evening that he found Kazuma and Ryuhou engaged in a battle with a stolen jeep and a radio to track down his assailant and interrupted the battle. He made a clear indication that he was seeking out Kazuma and he wanted to settle the score. Kazuma saw this as ridiculous, Ryuhou ordered Asuka to stand down and in return, he continued the battle without paying any heed. He said that he was no longer a part of HOLY and Kazuma was his.

Their battle lead them into an underground complex that Asuka had the chance to understand where Kazuma was coming from and agreed to help him out. He found that Kazuma's philosophies were simple and easy to follow. He slowly changed his beliefs that anyone born outside the city was just as equal as those born outside the walls. It wasn't until he was defeated a second time by Kazuma that he had a choice and live the way he wanted.

He took the advice to heart and began to help the efforts to free the Inners from the tyranny of rouge Alter users that used their powers to control entire villages and for personal gain through control. However, that wasn't the only battle he was facing. He decided to aid the Inners with medical care and offer his healing ability to help the sick. He discovered through his meeting with Mimori Kiryu that he discovered through her that there was an even deeper issue than simple conflict between humans and Alter users.

Mimori revealed that she came across some information that the captured Alter users from the Lost Ground that were sent to the Mainland were not only reconditioned but experimented on extensively. Some were "purified" which meant that their powers were pushed beyond what their bodies could take and often died once they used their powers too much. Some suffered brain damage and memory loss, others suffered insanity.

Tachibana was outraged and shocked that what he once believed to be right was now a feeling of blood on his hands since he aided in the capture of some of the Alter users. With this feeling of guilt, Tachibana decided to aid Mimori in her efforts to expose the government and put an end to this torture.

Eventually, he made the decision after his meeting of both Ryuhou and Scheris Adjani that he would stay behind to help the Inners than step into battle. With no regrets, he waited on word of what happened and the outcome of the one man responsible of destroying so many lives for the sake of power.

Roleplay Sample - Log:

It was a pivotal moment, a drop in the bucket to some, that time and space seem to melt and the details seem to fade. Asuka Tachibana was not immune to the effects of time although his memory suffered some as he tried to recall that one detail. That one tiny little thing that pushed him over the edge and seek revenge the first time. "How," he paused for just that one moment, "could I let this happen? Who am I, really?"

Olive colored eyes stared in the mirror at his own face. It was an introspection that he hadn't thought about since his arrival in this place of pain and sorrow. There were good things here, or that he hopes. Still, he was caught between the moral dilemma of hope and regret.

"Damn, I wish I knew." He clinched his fist tightly on the lip of the sink. Jaw torqued, eyes set, he looked at his own face. "Why won't you tell me? Maybe...I was hoping that someone would." His lips pulled into a tight smile that was most certainly forced.

"Why must I be so proper? Nobody understands...not even Cammy. But-" Another pause clung in the air. If anyone else knew that he was broken, he would be used just like those Native Alters that he used to capture. "I have to move on. I have to persevere." His voice echoed with the gravelly undertone that he had hidden for so long.

Now dressed, he made sure to hide the collar given to him so graciously by the Consortium under the collar of his uniform. He can't let it be known that he has powers with no one to trust. It was time for work with the beep of his watch as an indicator that he had to perform his tasks or fail.

Roleplay Sample - Journal:

[He handled the device with expert hands and the feed came on to show his face. A customary smile and a bow to his head, it was time to introduce himself to the network. It wasn't his idea to be so impersonal and generic though it seems fitting when he knew no one.]

Greetings. My name is Asuka Tachibana. Please address me as Tachibana. I am, in my world that is, a member of HOLY, an elite organization that specializes in...you know, forget I mentioned that. It doesn't really matter now. I would like to address a concern, however. Is there anyone I can speak to that would be willing to answer questions concerning our fates here in, ah, I'm not entirely sure where here is.

At any rate, is there a schedule that we should adhere to? I'm rather curious how these experiments are supposed to better our abilities and our social interactions. My apologies if I had disrupted anyone and my thanks for any answers. I'll leave the channel open.

This game includes horrible mental and physical torture of your character. After reading the rules/faq for clarification, how do you expect your character to handle this and continue to function? He's going to think that he was sent to the Mainland for reconditioning because of his failure to capture Kazuma. I think it would be a humbling experience for him and later, he would become the powerful man that he was meant to be.

Questions? Comments? Crazed and creative statements? Those go here.  Hm...I guess he'll have a lot of time to play with his balls. :D
