[Eye Color] Olive

[Other] Other than his hair and eyes, he appears to be a completely normal human.
[Clothing] Asuka generally wears either his HOLY uniform or he is seen wearing a red undershirt, blue jeans, Converse sneakers, and a tattered tan trench coat with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows.

[Background] Asuka Tachibana was born in a territory outside the city in what was known in his world as the Muruji Economic District. Anyone born outside the wall that surrounds the city was called an Inner since they often were people that had no records due to the upheaval of landmass 22 years ago had caused most of the records of the Kannigawa Prefecture to be lost, so the relocation of these people was considered very low. Asuka and his family were no exception.

As an Inner and an Alter User, he chose to suppress his ability to try to live a normal life not only for himself, but for his family. His mother had left both Asuka and his father behind when she was given the chance to return to the Mainland when her documents were discovered. At the time, Asuka was around the age of 10 or 11. His father remained behind with Asuka, hoping that someday she would return for them.

Asuka chose to deny his powers for a long time to protect his family and those he cared about which ended up becoming an issue when an Alter user came to his village and tried to take it over. Asuka stood up when his father was beaten and used his power which earned the attention of HOLY. Both Asuka and the rogue Alter user were captured. Asuka was given the choice to remain with HOLY while the renegade was sent to the Mainland, also known as the Main Island of Japan to undergo reconditioning. Since Asuka wasn't fighting for power, but instead was fighting to protect he was given the choice and took it.

Asuka stayed with HOLY and be began emulating one of its greatest Alters, Ryuhou, in the effort that if he could be like him everything would be better. Asuka went as far as to detest and shun away everyone that was born as an Inner while also accepting orders and following the law to the letter. It was his way of casting off the fact that he was once a Native Alter user, and he thought that adopting a more refined lifestyle he could let go his past and move forward.

Instead, this caused Asuka to hate himself even though he was often seen smiling. His meeting with Kazuma proved to be a challenge when the Native Alter was trying to escape. Kazuma later insulted Asuka during the attempt that made him really dislike Kazuma even more and felt that his honor was impugned when Asuka was brushed aside. Kazuma held no interest with the younger Alter user and thought of him as nothing more than a fake wannabe.

Later, after Kazuma's escape, Asuka was placed on duty around the Northwest Territory as part of the patrol unit to escort the Medical Unit. He didn't think that he would come across Kazuma again this soon, but upon meeting him, he took action. At the time, he didn't know that the little girl that Kazuma was fighting so hard to treat was Kanami Yuta.

The battle resulted in Asuka using his Eternity 8 to control the minds and bodies of the medical staff in the effort to overwhelm Kazuma. All it did was upset the independent Alter and make him mad enough to seek out Asuka personally. On the top of the ridge, Asuka waited and he smugly engaged in battle with the renegade along with retorts and references that Kazuma was nothing more than garbage. In a large way, Asuka was referring to himself in an effort to cast aside his past.

Asuka had attempted to control Kazuma after his introduction and failed. Asuka noticed that his Mind Control had no effect that shocked him. There was only one other person that he knew that had that kind of fortitude. Kazuma absorbed the Treasure Balls to form his own Alter power. The battle resulted in Kazuma beating him and breaking Asuka's arm in the process. He returned to the transport to find Scheris and Ryuhou at the scene where it all started and revealed that it was Kazuma that started the whole thing.

At the hospital, Asuka received a stern talking to by his girlfriend, Cammy, while she was more concerned about scarring or his wounds not healing properly. The next day, he was relieved of his duties at HOLY since he wasn't able to take down Kazuma. The news pushed the young Alter user over the edge and nearly drove him mad. Without any skills other than the use of his Alter power and virtually no education to speak of, Asuka felt completely useless, and had felt the driving need to prove himself once again. He healed himself with the use of his ability and started his search with a stolen Jeep and a few provisions that he managed to sneak off.

Asuka intercepted a transmission from HOLY about a battle between HOLY and the Native Alters. With determination, he decided to meet Kazuma at the battle ground. He interrupted the battle between Kazuma and Ryuhou and said that he wanted to be the one to take Kazuma down. The battle resulted in a shift in the ground where the two fell into an underground cave. The attack and combined hate had split the sky and the ground.

Asuka explored while the unconscious Kazuma "rested", and found that there was an underground mall not far from their position. Before they could get there, they had to clear up a few issues verbally. Asuka had pointed out that Kazuma was a bit of a barbarian with no sense of direction and morals, Kazuma retorted and said that Asuka was trying too hard to be like everyone else and even went as far to call him a spoiled, pretentious brat. It was something that Asuka was trying to fix, yet he didn't know how to go about making his own path, so to speak. Kazuma reminded Asuka that he was once a Native Alter that once lived free, but was captured which made it sound like it was his fault to begin with that he was so easily caught. Asuka took the time to learn more about Kazuma in a more diplomatic way which yielded better results than mere fists could muster. He discovered that Kazuma wasn't just a fighter, he was also a protector of freedom which HOLY would never be able to offer.

He talked to Kazuma about life in the city and the benefits from having a registered identity. He mentioned that life was better in the city, but Kazuma didn't like the idea and refuted the claim that life without freedom isn't a life at all. Asuka listened to his reasons and took note.

The new discovery that not all Alter users were human, the two fought side by side against animal Alter users that changed the fabric just that much more. He was not only surprised, he also gained an understanding on how Alter powers work along with the information that there was an Alter forest. Asuka knew none of this until he met Kazuma with the newly found knowledge he gained.

He was defeated again a second time to resolve the conflict they both held against each other. Both Kazuma and Asuka fought hard and even though Asuka was defeated, he was recognized by Kazuma that he was a strong Alter user even if the words were never said aloud. Asuka left, battered and defeated a second time, to take care of some issues that he needed to learn for himself.

He met with Mimori Kiryu later in the Inner Territories when she was being attacked by a gang of thugs. He arrived to her aid and controlled the minds of her attackers with the remark that she shouldn't be alone in a place like this. They decided to team up in hopes to find any information to what was really going on. As an Alter user, Asuka was limited to what he could do. He found a position with some Inners and other Alter users to gather information and supplies by raiding cargo ships and supply lines for assistance. Mostly, he specialized in medical supplies since those were the most needed.

While at Asuka's place where he handles stolen supplies to Inners that can't afford to purchase medicine or vital equipment, both Asuka and Mimori were watching a broadcast that described a battle scene and Kazuma's face was shown. Asuka knew better even in his shock that Kazuma didn't seem the type to attack without provocation. He admitted that Kazuma is a little wild but he wasn't a murderous tyrant.

After the broadcast, Asuka said that he was going to help Kazuma in his cause and made mention that he owed the renegade a lot. He now understands why Kazuma fights and he made his decision to stay and help the Inners no matter how tough it gets.

In obscurity, Asuka also learned about the truth of what happened to the Alter users that were captured by HOLY and sent to the Mainland through the help of Cougar and Mimori. Mimori opened the door by explaining that the low level Alters that were captured by HOLY were not kept in the prisons, but instead sent to the Mainland for experimentation. She also explained that she needed to see Ryuhou in order to inform him that the orders that he follows so blindly were not orders of justice like he believed, but instead orders to destroy lives for creating the perfect soldiers. He decided that it was time to take a stand, but the time to strike wasn't right.

Asuka and Mimori were in the wastes to find out what the disturbances were about when the battle between Ryuhou and Kazuma commenced. The two fighters hadn't fully reached their highest just yet but the disturbance was felt all around the Lost Ground ranging from high winds to earthquakes. After the battle receded, both Mimori and Asuka found Kanami. Mimori recognized the young girl and ran to her side. Asuka, seemed slightly confused then he recognized that this was the same girl that Kazuma was so pressed to get help when she came down with the Lah virus.

With Kanami, both Asuka and Mimori set out to search the cause of the destruction. To their surprise, Mimori was right in her assessment when they set their eyes on Ryuhou and Kazuma engaged in battle. The battle took another turn that caused Kazuma to reveal his second Alter transformation. The energy used was enough to alarm Asuka and Mimori that it was too much power being used. After a minute of watching, both Asuka and Mimori left the area with Kanami in a hurry. The disturbance led to the Second Uprising and both Ryuhou and Kazuma disappeared into the Gate that was opened due to their combined powers that created the rift between worlds.

Several weeks later, Asuka scouted the land using his Alter power of the Treasure Balls to control the minds of the wildlife. Any information that they gathered was used to help assess what was going on around them. Mimori expressed concern that she was worried about both Ryuhou and Kazuma and Asuka admitted the same. With the help of Cougar, they were able to find out more information about how Alter powers work.

Cougar mentioned that the Alter powers from any user is connected to the vortex of light known simply as The Gate which explained why the Alter users had felt the power and were drawn to it. Another shocking revelation to Asuka was when Cougar revealed that Mimori was the expert in Alter power. He wasn't told anything while he was at HOLY which really made him wonder and question why he was asked to join in the first place. He didn't feel as if he was an important member but instead a pawn. Cougar said that they all were pawns. Some were more valuable than others.

Cougar had gone to the city to gather more information and in his travels he picked up some rather strange lingo. It was his way of blending in...if that were possible considering his loud appearance and even louder personality. Asuka was working on something and became slightly agitated with Cougars retort of "Excuse me, Mr. President". Mimori backed Asuka and Cougar thwarted the blow by giving them valuable information in the form of Mimori's birthday present.

Cougar was especially pleased that he managed to gain points for his work, but it was Asuka that put the plan into action while leaving the babbling Cougar inside the office. The information was about a powerful Alter user that was found in the Restricted Zone. With the information given to them by Cougar, they headed out toward the Restricted Zone to see if it was Ryuhou that the readouts picked up, or at least that was their hope.

Little did they know that at the same time, HOLY was looking for the same two. However, it wasn't a naive ploy on the part of Mimori and Asuka. They moved quickly to try to get to Ryuhou first. Their search led them to an underground fighting organization where HOLY and the rest of society had forgotten about. Alter user tournaments were held in this area illegally. Asuka heard rumors that there was no economic support going to the region which meant that their barter system was based primarily off of services rendered.

The person they found wasn't Ryuhou, but instead it was Kazama. Asuka and Mimori watched in horror as Kazuma engaged in the illegal fight. They watched as Kazuma continued to get struck over and over again in the ring and even called out his name to spark something...anything. To their surprise, Kazuma snapped and destroyed the overpowered Alter with one hit.

While they were outside discussing the information they obtained from Cougar wasn't about Ryuhou. Asuka listened to Mimori as she talked about Ryuhou and why the two fight. A group of thugs tried to ambush the pair and ran when they discovered that Asuka was an Alter user. Asuka explained the reason he held back his Alter for so long and the reason that Kazuma fights the way he does.

Later that evening, Asuka and Mimori came to Kazuma's cell. Asuka had used his Alter power to subdue the child that managed his cell and brought his meals which was an act that he wasn't entirely proud of. Mimori tried to jar Kazuma's memory by telling him about Ryuhou and Kanami. Asuka tried the same tactic only he didn't succeed. Eventually, they were forced to leave the cell but they left the door open so he could make his own decision.

It's been a few weeks and Asuka finds a very large gift addressed to Mimori along with some hidden information about the Ryuhou's whereabouts courtesy of Cougar. The two decided to take a drive while Mimori goes through the information. Neither of the two knew that they were being hunted by HOLD.

A transport was dropped in the middle of their path which forced Asuka to stop the vehicle. Out comes Biff and the Hammer Alter user that was reconditioned in the Mainland to be a killing machine without any free thought. Asuka defends Mimori and fights against the Alter user only to discover that his mind was completely wiped. This revelation alarms both Asuka and Mimori.

Later in the fight, Ryuhou joins them and informs Asuka and Mimori that there is a little girl that needs their help and to defend her while he took care of the refined Alter user. The battle soon ended with Biff making his escape that Asuka got the chance to witness a warm reunion with Mimori and Ryuhou.

Asuka was driving but that wasn't the only thing he was doing. He was filling Ryuhou in with the information that he gained from Cougar, and from what he and Mimori gathered. The group spotted a light and began to assess what was going on. Asuka made it priority to return to the village as soon as possible with the limited speed that his vehicle could offer.

Ryuhou reached the scene first to aid Scheris that was left alone in the village. Shortly after, Asuka and Mimori arrived with Kanami to witness the reasons for the attack. Much to Asuka's surprise, they were after both Ryuhou and Mimori. Ryuhou was attacked when he didn't swear his allegiance to the Mainland and Asuka had tried to aid him. It wasn't moments before Kazuma showed up to help them out. It was a reunion that really clinched it with Asuka that he wasn't running.

Asuka pointed out that Kigetsuki had his power refined in the Mainland for the sole purpose to gain in the ranks to work for a higher power. There was a few moments where Kazuma and Ryuhou were able to get along until the Alter users from the Mainland attacked the group. Another revelation from Mimori that the lesser Alter users were manufactured with their memories stripped, their powers unified, and their free will taken away, everyone was told that they were part of a special tactical unit. They all discovered that it wasn't the case at all.

Later that night, Asuka listened in on an assessment inside one of the village's huts about what HOLY really was and their purpose with the Mainland. They all came to the conclusion that the situation was increasingly getting out of hand and they barely had the means to face a force that used people for experiments to gain power. A plan had to be formed. Asuka was inflamed when he found out that people were being treated inhumanely.

Cougar later revealed that he was sent to the Mainland to be refined and as a result, his body suffered. Asuka was surprised to learn about this but at the same time, he became more than cautious. He witnessed Kazuma's loss of composure when Kanami was captured. With the village and those that resided in it were in bad shape, Asuka decided to help with his Alter to heal the people that were injured. He used his power to such a degree that he wore himself out with exhaustion and passed out.

The invitation was sent to come to the City by means of a communication missile and a series of threats from the Alter user from the Mainland known only as Kyoji Mujo. Asuka made the decision to stay behind to help the villagers than get involved. He said that he's needed to stay there while everyone moved along their paths.

Despite Asuka not being around when the battles were taking place to reclaim the Lost Ground from the Mainland, he did feel Scheris' death. He felt the grief and the pain which solidified his conviction to protect those in his care just that much stronger. In a split second decision, Asuka managed to pull both Ryuhou and Kazuma out of the collapsing building, with the aid of the Treasure Balls, that was once the HOLY Headquarters and his home at one point of time.

While the two were being dragged back, Asuka chewed them out for being so careless and even went as far as to call them both idiots for waiting too long to get out of the building. Another factor he pointed out that they needed to help each other and not bicker so much. He knew better that it would last long if they did.

Asuka and Mimori were sitting at the table to assess what is going to happen to the Lost Ground. Both agree that the reason that Kazuma and Ryuhou were able to gain so much power so quickly was because of their independent spirits and the ability to remain free.

[Personality] Asuka Tachibana is generally a sweet guy with a touch of logic in his speech. In critical situations, Tachibana reacts with professionalism and decorum. Socially, he acts relatively average with a bit of an aloof politeness that depicts his conditioning to city life. He has a great deal of contempt toward the Inners when they found out that he was an Alter User while protecting his father from a rogue Alter user. This caught the attention of HOLD and lead to Tachibana's capture and reconditioning at the age of 11.

After his training and adjustment period, he began to understand that city life wasn't so bad as long as he followed the rules of society by remaining polite and obeyed the orders of the Mainland superiors. In episode 3, that all changed when he defied orders to hunt down an Alter User that embarrassed him in front of his peers.

Polite, Tachibana has heard many jokes about his "balls" and tends to remain focused during these immature outbursts from his peers and co-workers. At times, especially when he is pushed, he can react brazenly and lash out once he reaches his breaking point.

Tachibana loves life and tries his best not to harm another living thing as long as possible during a fight. He can be sensitive and shows empathy whenever another living being is harmed. He tries his best to protect those weaker than him or the powerless even at the cost of his own life. He's not afraid to stand up for what he believes in and does his best to perform at his peak.

Throughout the series, he shows a development in his personality where he no longer tries to be something that he wasn't. In the beginning, he was shown to be snotty, egotistical and arrogant with a whole lot of pride mixed in to hide his insecurity. It wasn't until his second fight with Kazuma where he muscled in and was defeated. That fight alone humbled him to such a degree that he had nothing left to do but to find his place in the world.

He eventually found himself helping the Inners as a scout, an illegal broker of medicines and supplies from stolen goods, and as a reconnaissance operative. He has shown an interest in tracing rumors to find the truth. Through Mimori's help, he learned about the science behind Alter powers and has used that knowledge to better his skills even further through perseverance.

He can be stubborn and yet he can be to the point if he finds it necessary. He has a long strain of patience that can exceed expectations, but even then it has a limit. He picks and chooses his battles carefully because he knows his limitations. If he feels that he can't take on a certain task or is overwhelmed, he will back off to let the stronger individuals take control of the situation.

Tachibana has also learned something else more important about himself as the series progressed. He knows that controlling people isn't the answer not matter how tough the battle or situation becomes. He would rather not control people if he can help it, but if there are people that he is protecting, he will use his Mind Control as a last resort.

He is more of a distance hitter than a up-front confrontational fighter. His hand to hand skills reflect this, and it's the weakest in his list of skills. He would rather not use his fists at all if he can help it. His fighting ability alone is so poor that when he's knocked down, he panics, and will often shrink, or back down.

Even if he can "feel" what's going on around him, he knows that if he gets involved he would only be in the way, so instead he chooses to keep his distance. Tachibana has a method in how he does things. Even during the time he "rescued" Kazuma and Ryuhou, and shrugged off his help as nothing more than a rest, he knew better than to argue and shrugged it off as well.

He can be a mother hen of sorts. He would rather have those around him to think things through than rush in head on. He voices this more than once when Ryuhou and Kazuma both decided to rescue Kanami. He worries when people go in without a plan. Then again, he worries when anyone does anything reckless and is vocal about it. Often, he lectures when he's healing those that got hurt from sloppy planning. He can be a perfectionist when it comes to how situations are being handled. In a lot of ways, he reflects his emotions through his own actions.

He can take a joke in stride and often will reply with a sarcastic remark of his own when he's the mood to deal with it. Otherwise, he would simply change the subject and continue on as if that part of the conversation never took place. This can have a two-fold effect. It could either irritate the person that said the remark or it could turn out for the better and focus their attentions on something more important.

Tachibana can be silly without realizing it. After all, he's still a teenager. Duty generally comes first before play. Either one are taken according to timing and his mood. He's not brooding and he hardly gets depressed. If he ever does, he never shows it publicly. To him, emotions are subjective and can often cloud judgment during times of crisis. There is a time and place to show them. However, he'll never berate a person for having them. He does recognize that some people are very good at balancing them better than others and they can get the job done even if they do complain. Still, it wouldn't stop him from forming an opinion.

Depending on how well he knows a person, he can either be very open or appear fake. His basic politeness hardly leaves unless there is something more important waiting that needs his attention. He's not much for babbling about useless information and would rather cut to the chase than beat around the bush.

Mental State: Tachibana does exhibit a strong bead of insecurity when he's alone. He often questions his own actions and hesitates which has lead to his defeat on several occasions. One of them happened to lead to his capture as a child and he felt powerless. As he grew, he grew an attachment to those stronger than him and tries to emulate their ideals. This leads to an obsession to Ryuhou, his group leader. He went as far as to act like him, dress like him, has a similar haircut, and even talk like him. He doubts his own sexuality and shows this through confusion by asking questions.

Tachibana is intelligent but he's also extremely naive. He doesn't know how to express his opinions well which often leads to debates or heated arguments. When questioned, he sometimes submits and backs out of the conversation by conceding that he is the weaker. Internally, he will hold in his anger until he can no longer control it and will eventually break. To some, this may look like he's strong but inside he's too scared to confront his internal issues of doubts and regrets.

[Specialties/Abilities]
Asuka has many abilities that are a branch off from his primary ability to summon eight jade balls that he can form from any matter around him. This is known as his Alter Power called Eternity 8. He can form up to 8 of these balls about the size of a softball in size or close to the size of grapefruits. He can condense the size to about that of golf balls. (Which, by the way, his power is the butt of many jokes concerning the balls themselves despite their uses.)

He can only use these balls to manipulate living things but it comes at a cost. The more spheres he summons, the quickly he tires. Despite the orbs versatility as tools, weapons, life-force manipulators and healing, they do drain his physical body since he has to use his body and mind to control them.

- Mind Control: Tachibana can control as many as eight individuals, coinciding with the number of orbs he can summon, at one time. However, the greater the number, the greater the mental drain that he will suffer from. They have to be living in order for this to work. He can use unconscious individuals much the same way as a puppeteer can use puppets. However, if a person exhibits a stronger mental fortitude, he can use more than one to break down their wall and only for as long as Tachibana can maintain that hold.

Controlling minds of individuals does greatly restrict him in combat and therefore he is forced to hide while he performs Mind Control. He could use the mind-slaves for combat purposes but there's a catch. The mind-slaves would perform the same action which would make them appear as if they are mirroring each other than acting as individuals would in a combat situation.

- Ring Platform: Tachibana can transmute the Eternity 8 into a high energy ring that would allow him to levitate in order to perform "tactical retreats". He can also use this ring to cut down obstacles that pose a threat to him, but prefers not to use it for that purpose against living things. When he has the ring in use, he can't summon any orbs. This flying "disk" can travel at high speeds and last as long as Tachibana can control it which is generally for short distances.

- Luminance: This is a very low powered ability that he can use to on the summoned orbs. He can make the spheres glow as long as he remains conscious. In combat, they can remain glowing, but it will drain him a bit faster since he would have to use three abilities at once; keeping the spheres tangible, making them glow and using them for combat.

- Healing Boost: He can heal up to eight individuals at one time, but the cost to his body depends up on the injuries sustained and it drains him considerably. The concentration used to heal is taxing. In the series, he healed up to 40 people and passed out shortly after healing these people fully. These orbs can also heal fatigue, mental exhaustion, serious wounds, broken bones, coma, poison, intoxication, drug overdose, frost bite, burns, internal bleeding, and illness. As long as the subject has a pulse, he can heal them dramatically. However, it cannot heal mental illness, possession or intelligence issues. He can heal the pain associated with these issues but nothing more.

- Eternity 8 Ring: Tachibana can create a ring that would allow him to lift an individual about the ground either to prevent attack or to get a person out of a dangerous situation. This is also called Eternity Arrest. The binding ring is nearly impossible to break free unless the individual captured has greater than the strength of the ring itself and that depends greatly upon Tachibana's physical condition. In good health, the ring has the same tensile strength as a steel ring one inch thick. At his weakest, it has the strength of balsam wood.

- Eternity 8 Shield: Tachibana has the ability to create a shield using the eight Treasure Balls and he can make this shield as condensed or as wide as he chooses by controlling the orbit and speed of the Treasure Balls. The more condensed the shield, the more powerful the attack it can repel. However, the condensed shield is only as strong as his body can sustain. Meaning, if the attack is powerful enough to tear chunks from the ground, as long as his body isn't fatigued he can hold up against this attack. The wider the shield, the weaker it becomes.

- Eternity 8 Sword: By aligning the eight Treasure Balls in a straight line, he can manipulate the energy into a semi-plasma state that can cut through virtually anything. However, like the shield, if he's too taxed, the sword may not be as strong or last as long against an attack if his body is taxed.

- Eternity Extra Shot: Tachibana can reconstruct more material to create a bow that attaches to his left wrist. With this bow, he can align the Treasure Balls in a straight line like an arrow. Aiming for the head of his target primarily, he can erase memories, break mental conditions or wipe the mind completely which leaves the victim a drooling, and rather unintelligent creature that can be re-conditioned into someone else. He could also read thoughts from this attack depending on the mental fortitude of the target.

[Affection] Hugging is fine without permission, although it will stun him a bit. The same goes for holding his hand, kissing, or a friendly pat on the shoulder. However, he has a very Japanese way of how he handles physical contact and he will be polite even if he's uncomfortable.

[Fighting] Can other characters fight/injure/kill your character? You can also mention how well your character is at fighting and if he/she would invoke fights. The answer to this one really depends on the situation. Yes, he can be injured and engage in a fight since that's what he's used to in his world, but killing him should be discussed.

[Other Permissions] Can telepathic characters read your character's mind? Yes, if he's worn down first. Being a telepath himself in a way through his Treasure Balls, I would suspect some psychic-backlash from both sides.

How much can fourth wall breakers say? In other words, how intrusive can another character be toward yours? 4th wall breaking, no. He comes from an alternate dimension and it wouldn't make much sense for someone in our time-line to know about his world. Unless it is specified that the character would know about anime, we'll talk it out.

If there's anything you don't want a character to bring up or know about your character, just fill it in here. I'm not counting the manga-verse since...well...it's too weird and complicated to discuss anywhere. If a 4th Wall Breaker happens to know about it, he won't acknowledge that it's him in any way.

[Other Facts] Anything else can go here~ Since in canon he had a girlfriend, he's at the point in time where he's unsure if she cared enough for him to stay when the order of evacuation was given. Not only did he lose a friend to death, he's almost at the point of breaking from not knowing what else to do other than to protect those that rely on him.
